The main difference between a psychiatrist and a psychologist lies in their medical training and approach to mental health treatment. On the other hand, to become a psychologist, individuals typically need to complete a doctoral degree in psychology, such as a Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) or a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Psychology. This is followed by supervised clinical experience and licensure requirements to practice independently.

While psychiatry and psychology have distinct roles in mental health care, there are areas where their roles overlap. Both psychiatrists and psychologists work to assess, diagnose, and treat mental health conditions. They collaborate with other healthcare professionals, such as primary care physicians, social workers, and psychiatric nurses, to provide comprehensive care to individuals with mental health concerns.
